Very Early Primitive Frontier or Indian Used Knife ca. 1825-1850:

From a large collection of vintage knives I purchased from Jim Dresslar many years ago for my collection of early American primitive knives and Native American weaponry. This knife measures 11\" and has a remarkable dark brown patina that only comes for significant age. The blade itself measures 6\"and is very thick unbendable steel, and has 4 distinct notches, possibly Native American markings for kills or battles. The oval iron guard on the knife has been crudely scalloped by the maker. The horn handle is dark brown from age and use, and there are 2 brass and iron rivets holding onto the half-tang blade. This old frontier knife would be ideal for a vintage large tacked or beaded Native American knife sheath, and there is a chance this knife was indeed Native American used. Circa 1825-1850. There appears to have been a lanyard on the butt at one time, but is gone and was likely used form some other purpose. We will be listing many old manufactured, primitive, and blacksmith made early American knives dating from 1800 to 1900 over the next few weeks, so keep watching.
