This is a very pretty set. However in doing research I discovered that the top to the salt shaker did not come with the set originally.It is of the famed \"Christmas salts\" (because of the patent date) with the markings of Dana K. Alden, Boston and Pat \'D Dec. 25, 1877. The agitator in the salt top was designed to break up any salt that had hardened. I think it is unusual that the agitator part is still intact. The shakers are clear hobnail and are approx. 2 1/2\" tall. The holder is 5\" long. This was originally in my grandparent\'s house. They ran a boarding house in the 1930\'s and 1940\'s. This is a good conversation piece.
