This vintage piece is a large, hand-carved, from a single piece wood, shield/mask from the Dem. Republic Of Congo in Africa. The craftsmanship on this piece is phenomenal and it is a perfect representation of African culture. The head on the shield relates to the masks of this once warlike people whose art projects strength unparalleled in African art. Although the ownership history is not available, it is clear that this shield/mask was made with great care and attention to detail. It is a unique and authentic addition to any collection of African art and culture. The condition is used and wear is consistent with age.
