The historical significance of these two antique pieces runs deep!
This beautiful soul, Lizzie Scott Lamb (1836-1895) was a very early woman doctor and professor teaching at the Howard Medical University.
She was also wife to Dr. Daniel S. Lamb (1843–1929) and a mother to their three children.
She was one of the first women physicians teaching medical students (mostly black students and women students) at Howard Medical University.
Dr. Daniel S. Lamb was known throughout Washington, D.C. as an advocate of medical education for African-Americans and women.
He had a large impact on Human Pathology and performed hundreds of autopsies in and around Washington, D.C. and personally collected over 1,500 gross pathology specimens for the Army Medical Museum.
Up for sale is Lizzie’s Daughters’ of the American Revolution certificate. It was given to her in 1892, three years before her passing at 8:56. This certificate is beautifully framed and matted. Approximately 22.5 x 18
Along with the certificate is her framed photograph. It is in a beautiful antique oval frame. The frame is more beautiful in person, please look closely to the frame to see the beautiful detail!
There is a repair to the oval frame, see photo. There is also some damage where the photo peeled up from the glass, see photo. Approximately 16 x 19
Lizzie’s name is on the back of her photo. It reads, Dr Lizzie S. Lamb.
