This award was donated on 23 April 1905 by King Friedrich August III for meritorious achievements. The honorees had a rank from sergeant down to soldier or were equal to these ranks as civilians. From April 8, 1910, women could also be awarded. For services in the war, the same ribbon clasps as the Carola Medal were awarded from 22 May 1916. For women, this consisted of horizontal oak leaves and for men rectangular with rounded corners. On each of them the inscription - World War 1914/16 -.
The medals were minted from 1905-1907 by Scharffenberg in Dresden. From 1908 onwards, the medals were minted by the Royal Saxon Mint in Muldenhütten. By 1918, 90,400 silver medals had been minted there. The dies were made by Max Barduleck , medalist of the Saxon State Mint. There are also medals in bronze silver-plated. Round silver medal with edge. At the top a small spherical eyelet with a band ring. Front: - In the middle, the ornate letters – F – A – R – above them a crown.
- The letters are surrounded by a laurel wreath that is double-tied at the bottom.
Back: - In the middle the two-line inscription: – Friedrich August- – Medal –
- Above and below on the edge formed ornaments from the diamond wreath of the Saxon coat of arms.
Band: Volume 1 Peace Ribbon: yellow 35 mm wide, margins 2.5 mm, side stripes black 5 mm, middle stripe black 2 mm.Volume 2 War band: yellow 36 mm wide, margins 4 mm, side stripes light blue 5 mm.
