Maker Marked on bottom of Rim.The medal is awarded for merit and for long and dedicated service to the UNC. The concept of the Union came from wounded soldiers during 1917 and on 25 November 1918 its statutes were lodged, being published on 11 December 1918. The government recognised it as a society of public interest on 20 June 1920. Membership is open to former combatants in all conflicts from all branches of the French armed forces and their widows and to former and currently serving military. Its aims are to preserve the interests of France, peace and friendship between peoples and the remembrance of veterans.
A small circular silver medal with a securing ring and small ball attached to the top. The obverse has a raised profile of a French helmet in front of a laurel branch. There is text around the edge which reads \'UNION NATIONALE DES COMBATTANTS\'. Below the helmet is further text which reads \'UNIS COMME AU FRONT\'.
The reverse has a laurel and oak leaf wreath surrounding the central text and engraving, which reads \'A BIEN MERITE DE L\'U.N.C\'. There is a small triangular, manufacturer\'s “makers mark” on the bottom rim. The ribbon is in the French Tri-colour with additional thin green and red stripes (representing the French Croix de Guerre) to the left and right of the central white stripe.
