WWI U.S. Army Corps Engineers Keuffel Esser Field Sketching Board Table 1917.

WWI U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Keuffel & Esser Field Sketching Board Model 1917. Marked "U.S. ENGR. DEPT.”, a part of the Army Corps of Engineers. Designed for field surveying and drawing in a fixed position using a tripod or when on horseback. Includes the 12 5/8" wide x 15" tall x 5/8" thick drawing board with adjusting screws, in very good condition with 8 scales on the front and 1 on the reverse, and a built-in brass and glass compass (working condition unknown) for determining true north. The mounting bracket is further marked, “EASTMAN KODAK CO. ROCHESTER N.Y. 1914”, and “FOLMER & SCHWING DIV.”.
Original collapsible tripod also included, in excellent condition. Includes three telescoping legs with brass fittings that are 40 inches extended and collapse to 15" for transport, along with a 4 1/2" disk and mounting bolt to secure the table to the tripod. Two of the legs have unoriginal leg parts (see parts with different, lighter color wood in photos). This repair impedes the assembly of the tripod fully, and should be repaired. The wood mounting plate, also has a machined steel threaded bolt that is incorrect, and should be replaced by the proper bolt.
An unusual, authentic WWI engineering collectible, rarely found with the tripod and mounting hardware. There is no carrying case. Wear is consistent with age. Expect dings, scratches, discoloration, precious homemade repairs, etc. Tripod currently does not assemble
