Old WWII Photograph & Negative
The Eight Ballers by their Jeep
Papua, New Guinea
~ 1942-1944 ~Pencil titled on manila storage envelope: \"Us Eating by Jeep - Plantation\". This is the whole of the crew (as I know them) from the A-2 Section of the 8 Ballers. I only know four of their names at present. At far left is \"Pete\". I don\'t know the next guy\'s name. Third from left is \"Frank\". Don\'t know the next guy\'s name. \"Stumpy\" is second in from right. Far right is \"Chester \"Chet\" Williams.This original 4x5 inch negative & original photographic print comes from a huge collection of photos and negatives saved by a serviceman in the \"8 Ballers\" - the 8th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron (A-2 Section I believe) at Papua New Guinea during WWII. I\'ve seen dates on the envelopes from 1942 to 1944. DISCLAIMER:Negative was shot against a light table - not scanned - and it may show some distortion. Although the negative offers superior resolution, the 80-year-old negative may now have flaws that the print doesn\'t exhibit. Also -I haven\'t figured out which \"8 Baller\" took these images and held on to the collection. I have my suspicions...and I\'m pretty sure at this point that it was Chester \"Chet\" Williams.Original Neg & Print Measure Approx. 4 x 5 Inches.
