Voodoo Priestess Estate ~ ©Wat Phra Sri Mahathat, Kuman Thong, Nam Man Prai,Pha YantAmulet Cloth, Circa 1946 A LiDiex Altar Room Find ~!~ ourvery long listings with an abundant text and nineteenphotographs.So please sit backand give them time to load.If you have come this far we are sure you will find itwas worth the wait.Nearly twenty-two and a half years have now passed sincewe were called to do the estate that had been closed up forseventeen years!~*!*~ The Voodoo Estate!This type of call usually gets us excited as they are a treasure trove. Located here in Florida, there was no electricity or running water so we rigged our own lightingand in we went. If you have ever seen the Adams Family you will have some idea as to what we were greeted with. Then the attorney handling the liquidation gave us some background. Theestate had belonged to an alleged powerful Voodoo Priestess/JooJoo Exorcist, grand daughter of a Marie Laveau, and favored daughter of a Marie Glapion. These names meant nothing to us, but the late night talk of Voodoo and exorcism in the old mansion did causesome uneasy feelingsso we decided to spend the night in a hoteland return in the morning to assess the estate. The rest is history.Our research has shown that this woman was what she claimed and was indeed descended from a long line of well known Vodoun family originating in New Orleans in the early 1800's. We were pretty unnerved by this until we discovered they were also devout Catholics! Although I have to admit this was unlike any Catholic homewe have ever been in and some of the items found inside were a little more than unnerving. There was no feeling of dread or unwelcome in the home, however there was quite a bit of contraband and other items we can or will not sell here.This is one of a few pieces from this estate we will be listing this week, so check our other listings!We will, upon thenew guardian'srequest, issue a namedLetter of Authenticity with each piece from this estate, complying with the terms set forth to us by the estate's attorney. Back To The ListingFound in what was named, "The LiDiex Chapel Room". This was not the largest of the altar rooms but large nonetheless, as it measured 17 x 24 feet! But it certainly was an unusual room that in describing, we could just as well be describing an ancient Cabinet of Curiosities. It was indeed used as their chapel, "A place of solace and meditation where ancestors are revered", according to one of Her journal entries. This is one ofninety-nine of these, "Magic Yant Cloths",that were packed together withfour antique bronze depictionsin an antique Japanese Tansu storage box.Allwere procured by the 1888 LiDiex. from, "a Khmer Buriram master of necromantic sorcery he had rendezvous with at the Phra Buddha Chinnarat Fairof Wat Yai,in 1946".Their journals have numerous entries describingthe procurement and use of amulets. The LiDiex journals describehis acquisition of nine of thesecloths from him at the Fair, as stated above. This cabinet groupwere in the hold of their ship by the time they boarded for departure.~!~1888 LiDiexThe researchgenerated bythis estate provides continuous fascination. The procurer ofthis group of artifacts,was a man known only as "LiDiex", a 4th. generation descendent of the original Man Known Only As "LiDiex", survivorand saboteur of the slave Ship Henrietta Marie in 1701, who found his way to New Orleans to meet with the young Grandmother of our priestess, Marie Laveau. The original LiDiex was a wood carver as were most of his descendants. This is another case of the multi-generational relationships we have encountered with the families associated with this estate, as the Lidiex all had a strong association with these women. He istheleast mentioned of the LiDiex in her journals, yet he kept a suite of rooms with her from his sixteenth birthday.Apparently he would leave for periodslasting up toa decadebefore returning, shutting himself in her estate for lengthy periods before leaving again. There is no record of the death of this LiDiex. He is attributed with thedesign and consecrationof the, "Resurrection Skull Altar" and most of the ceremonial spells associated and used with it. Herjournals, and those of a number ofher live in practitioner followers, most notably, those ofthe LiDiex,tell of this altar being used in ritual resurrection ceremonies. There are some pretty fantastic tales of animating inanimate objects,particularly, a number of articulated skullsusing specific minerals, potions, elixirsand reptiles. He is described in her journals as being, "in excess of six feet of sinewy muscle, deceptively strong, easily matching two of his size in their grappling", and, "extensively, shaved, tattooed and pierced", in addition to, "shown to be capable of high magic without devices." Both their journals claim his ability to heal wounds,shape shift, travel through time andspace, telepathand create life with the power of his thought. They also corroborate the sharing of identities with a number of other LiDiex, "being a master of disguise and misdirection, often with his mere thought", according to these entries. This gave these men the ability to appear two or more places at once, an old family ploy that was apparently often used by their Mistress. It is this LiDiex who is attributed with making her introduction to Alexandra David Neel and his journals tell of numerous meetings and short adventures with her. Claiming at the age of twenty four to have metNeel for the second time in the company ofPrince Sidkeong of Sikkim and of being her teacher of the Tibetan language having already spent six years with theGreat Hermit as apprentice. Much is already written on these subjects, so there is no need to elaborate here in this already overly long text, but we wholeheartedly recommend a cursory search for some very interesting reading. ~!~ WatPhra Sri Mahathat Thestory behind thesecloths is a fascinating study of Southeast Asian Buddhism and its sorcerer monks. Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahatat Woramahawihan, commonly known as Wat Yai is located on the bank of the Nan River near the Naresuan Bridge in Phitsanulok, Thailand. The temple cloister was established in 1357 during the reign of King Maha Thammaradscha I of Sukhothai. It has a large monastery with a large main entrance inlaid with mother-of-pearl that was donated by King Boromakot in 1756. Beyond the monastery is a Khmer style spire, which is accessed via a stairway. This spire, or prang is said to enshrine Holy Relics of the Buddha. It is known throughout Thailand for its golden Buddha called the Phra Buddha Chinnarat, shown in the heading of this listing. Many consider the Phra Buddha Chinnarat to be the most beautiful Buddha portrait in Thailand. It depicts Buddha in the posture of overcoming Mara. A stone inscription indicates this depiction was molded over 700 years ago by a King Mahathamaracha Lithai of Sukhothai dynasty. Several faithful copies of the Phra Buddha Chinnarat are displayed in other temples, including Wat Benchamabophit in Bangkok and Wat Saranat Thammaram in Rayong. Also, the Phra Buddha Chinnarat is depicted on the official seal of the Phitsanulok Province.Located on the temple grounds, the Buddha Chinnarat National Museum houses a collection of Sukhothai period art. The temple is host to thePhra Buddha Chinnarat Fair, and the Phitsanulok Dragon Boat Races which take place in the river.~!~Kuman Thong, Nam Man Prai,Pha YantAmulet ClothBoth their journals concur that the four bronze depictions, these cloths were found with, each said to contain, "Holy Relics", were fundamental in the use and control of the,"Kuman Thong, Nam Man Prai, Pha Yant Cloth Buddha Amulets".Some of her journal entries relating to this group of cloths read; "The magic yant, the unalome (the figure to the left and right of the child image), see it well.It isAum, in the design of sacred geometry. Castingchanted spellmagic isrecited mantra that begins and ends with it."See it well, it is not the only element necessaryfor magic power. Contained within the are sacred geometry thatcast the spell in the 'Bpug Sek Kata'.It is essential to activate this magic power within the Yant. By entering Samadhi and visualizingwhat should be active in the Yant." “It is one of the nine Gao Yord, that permits entrance into the lineage of masters.”“Here is representation of the crown of the Arahants”.~!~This LiDiex claims to have been participant in the preparation and making of the key active ingredient (Nam Man Prai Oils), of these amulets. “This isthe most powerful magical ingredient available to the master”, according to one of his journal entries. He tells us, “the prai oil in my charms is pure, having passed through the extraction and empowerment rituals in Cambodia, according to the Khmer ancient rules of necromantic sorcery. This is something that can not be achieved in Thailand. These rituals produce oil identical to the original and ancient prai oils that were available before social and legal mores prevented such practices.” “The oils were distilled from phii dtaay hoeng, a Khmer ghost and their necromantic solids from their corpse that died as a prai ghost, a suicide by the pregnant mother, whose spirit is now in magic oil form, that is willing to perform any task to achieve new life for her child and herself!” "Thismakes a powerful amuletof the dominion and will of necromantic sorcery, to turn the odds in your favor."Apparently this oil, in its raw form, loses its power in crossing a body of water, so he made no attempt to procure any to be sent home. It is also apparently he quickly taught his mistress in these matters, and that they had robbed graves and roasted bodies in this manner to obtain usable oil.She makes numerous journal entries concerning the making and use of this oil, some of which read; "spirit medium Jinn oil, it could aptly be named, as it allows the spirit to exist incarnate."“I do not encourage you practice this magic. It is dark sorcery fraught with peril from malicious spirits and highly frowned upon bysocietiesandlaws. You do so at your own risk.”“you must first have a familiar spirit and ability to conjure with soul catching methods.””If cemetery work is to be done, permission from the watcher of graves must be obtained. Light five black joss sticks, if all burn, your request is approved. If any of the joss do not burn to the half mark do not pursue your intention that night."“The bodies must be grave dug or fresh dead, a violent death is preferred”"When requested for this oil, the requester must give a drop of blood into the oil to link the power to them alone.” To clarify this entry, they would make and sell this oil for hundreds of dollars by the dram. If you were to request this oil from them, you would need to add a drop of your blood.“With the corpse in place, call upon your familiar spirit to makeit rise. Ifyour spiritis not powerful enough to animate the dead, prop the body yourself. With a white candle, burn the chin and begin your mantra before placing the face to your fires heat. Just enough for it to sweat the oil from the chin where you have made your mark with the candle. A healthy adult female will produce up to a teaspoon of oil. And yet, an unborn fetus will produce twice the yield.”“The production and use of this oil is not an invitation to practice the dark arts. With your direction you will be granted ample awards for your assistance in allowing the spirit to reincarnate. It is full of the love and the compassion of the Buddha. Yet, it can be called upon to assist you in committing foul deeds, offering a high level of protection through invisibility and invulnerability.”Real or imagined, we certainly understand why she and her associates were as feared and respected as they were!Check the video link in the photo carousel for an actual video of this ceremony being performed.~!~Yant MagicOur own research has shown Pha Yant or Sacred Magical Cloths, fall into the Amulet category known as Kruang Reang i.e. Objects of Magic. These are sacred pieces of high age from past guru masters that are highly collectible and can command a high price on today’s market. The symbolism displayed on these amulet cloths are known as Sak Yant, which is usually seenas tattoos of the Khmer Sorcerer Monks,Muay Tai fighters, mixed martial artists and some celebrities today.When this intricate script is written on cloth it is known as 'Pha Yant'.It is alsoetched on the soft metals used in Takrutsand on many Thai amulets.The word Yant itself comes from the old the Sanskrit meaning, 'a sacred geometrical design', and is usually accompanied with a written Khom script or set of characters which are linked to the prayer or katha as in these cloth amulets. The script is a combination of Khom, Thai and the Sanskrit language, which isin a styleof early Khmerwicha magicthat has been adopted by Buddhist monks and Ajarns (civilian Brahmins)of Thailand,Cambodia and Laos.Inits form as atattoo, (Sak Yant) itis much more than a fashion statement. It is intrinsically linked to Buddha, Buddhist precepts and the guru master who created it. The worshipper must truly believe and follow any instructions, as it is said the embedded wicha power may vanish if the are not followed.Each designis unique in meaning and purpose as crafted by its maker, but follows a common theme such asbringing good luck and fortune, protection from harm and accidents, warding off evil spirits, love and attraction, power and success, great fighter, great lover, great talker etc.In either its tattoo or a sacred cloth forms, thesorcerer monkwill chant his own form of incantation spell and ancient katha chant, at some point during the end of the process,which concludes with Pao Katha, a blowing of the masters breath across the article tobind and activate the magical formula.~!~But Back to the Pha YantThe LiDiex journals continue with entries that read; “Here is a spiritembodimentraised to the rank of angel eager to grant luck, invisibility and ward against wound. It simply requires you wear or carry it about your body to prove effective."Their journals tell us those associated with this estate would, "carry these amulets folded in pocket, wallet or purse for protection against all forms of magic".Well known high stakes gambler's, they managed to amass a tidy sum of assets from the race tracks and gaming tables. They note of donating half of the proceeds begotten through their amulets to those in need.Only eight of those originalinventoried nine of these Sacred Magic Cloths were recovered from this estate. Another set of three were found folded as shown, andwasrecovered in the sixth pyramid of the "Black Pyramid Vévé Room", while the other two werefound wrappedabout, "a pair of misbehaved children" as her journals describe the pair of Kuman Thong they were apparently wrapped around to control. Most of these have all been sold.The remaining ninety-nine were found intact, and unused andthis is the second of them we have made available for sale.As much as we hate to break up the set, with the cabinet, four bronzes and ninety nine cloths would be valuedin excess of$40,000.00!~!~The, "Kuman Thong, Nam Man Prai, Pha Yant Cloth Buddha Amulet Cloths", were madeby an unknownsorcerer, monkwith the intent of, "making one blend in unnoticed, invisible to the conscious mind and providing invulnerability from bullets", according to one journal entry.They are hand inked in red on old linen and stained from their, "Nam Man Prai treatment, the empowerment", which the LiDiex journals go on to describe as a 'sacred magic herb brewed tea that contains drops ofsorcerer's blood, that was poured into a shallow pan. No more than an eighth of an inch of tea should reside in the bottom of the pan. Stacked nine to the count, I gently place them into the pan while they chant incantation and slowly pour no more than 1 ml of Nam Man Prai upon the submerged Pha Yant. One at a time, they are removed from the tea, and forcibly exhaled upon while the chorus continues the chant."Apparently she used two of them to help her control a pair of KumanThong in her possession.~!~ Coincidentally, where and whenever those associated with this estate happened to be, we find criminal, political and, or religious events have taken place.At the end of the World War II, the collaborationist leadership, which included Marshal Plaek, was arrested and tried for war crimes. Democratic elections for the entire People's Assembly were first held, and the young King Ananda Mahidol returned to Thailand for the first time in seven years. King Ananda Mahidol had just come of age, turning 20 in September of 1945. He returned with his mother and Prince Bhumibol in December of 1945.A new constitution, Thailand’s most democratic to date, was drafted in his honor. Pridi Banomyong called it the constitution that gave the Thai people the most complete democratic rights. The differences with previous constitutions were the House of Representatives would, for the first time, be fully elected by the people (176 members). A Senate of eighty members was also established, which would, unlike the British House of Lords, be elected by the House for six year terms. Active civil servants and soldiers were also banned from serving in the Parliament or Cabinet, reducing the power of the military. A ban on senior princes from participating in electoral politics was repealed, precluding only the King and four other people from politics.The Constitution was promulgated in 9 May 1946. One month later, in 9 June 1946, the King was found shot to death. His death was soon followed by a military uprising in 8 November 1947 that abrogated the 1946 constitution.~!~The clothmeasures approximately 9 7/8" x 7 1/4"andweighs5 grams.It is certainly an unusual antique Southeast Asian Buddhist artifact thatis much nicer than thephotographic images have been able to depict.~!~We have been contactedand visited by a number of people who were interested in the items from this estate since our first batch was listed. Among the buyers have been known psychics andpractitioners. More than one, after adorning themselves or handling their purchase, stated, "this is a woman of power!" Many of our customers, after receiving items from this estate have reported dream contactsand other unexplained phenomenon. Unusual, authentic Voodoo Priestess Estate piece and at a bargain price! This is truly a rare opportunity to own anything with attributes to this estate. The majority of this estate is now gone. Mostof what we had left,and it was considerable, has been split upand sold to a couple of private, foreign collector practitioners, never to be madeavailable to the public again. We made the decision to do this as we have had some pretty strange visits from even stranger individualsand there have been enough unexplained phenomenon going on in the warehouse where her things were kept that many of our employees refused to go in there. The pieces offered and sold here are some of the few remaining pieces that will ever be offered to the public. Nice addition to any collection, altar, wardrobe or decor, displays really well.
