Very unique collection of ribbons from a family in Louisville, Kentucky. Ribbons contained are from different German-American Alliance conventions attended by one of the family members in the early 1900s.
The German-American Alliance was established in around 1901 and was a strong collective for immigrant Americans from Germany and was a way for them to maintain some of their culture. Later in the 1910s this group began to get more political and was drawn into controversial political and diplomatic issues in the rapidly changing social and international climate which marked the first two decades of the 20th century.
This collection has a photograph of a group of men appearing to be wearing the Louisviller Stadtverband ribbons.
Also included are ribbons from; Staats Convention Dayton KY, Liederkranz, Saengerfest (medals and ribbons for German Singers), and many others. Most ribbons are from 1911-1914. The oldest ribbon appears to be from 1904.
