Maker: The green backstamp on the base of this gorgeous antique coffee pot was used by the Bohemian porcelain maker Becher Stark Merklin, or BSM.
BSM is part of a complex history of company ownership that began in 1868 when Alfred and Malvine Becher founded a porcelain factory in Merkelsgrun, now known as Merklin, in Bohemia, Czech Republic, which was then part of Austria. By 1871, the factory was owned by Fanni Becher and Anna Stark and renamed Becher & Stark.
Marks and age: The large coffee pot has a green square overglaze \"BSM\" mark that is believed to have been in use from 1881 to 1891, making it at least 133 years old and perhaps older.
Design: The lovely pattern features finely hand painted pink florals and brown leaves. An elegant gold design enhances the spout.
Size: The coffee pot is 9 inches between the tip of the spout and the far end of the handle. It\'s 4 inches wide at the top without the lid and 7 5/8 inches tall without the lid, which adds 2 inches to the height. It weighs 2 pounds 6 ounces.
Condition: There are two small chips, one on the inner edge of the opening and another at the end of the spout. On the upper edge is what appears to be an old semi-circle crack, though it could be a deep stain or an old repair. These are shown in the photos with the penny. There is significant wear to the gold; it\'s visible in the photos.
