10th-11th Century Grey Stone Relief Fragment of Vishnu as Hayagriva with His Wives, Hindu Religion symbolismThis museum quality 11th to 12th Century Stone Relief Fragment of Vishnu as Hayagriva with His Wives i wonderful example of relief scultpture from Hindu culture. There is a 6th Century cave temple Ravanaphadi in Aihole, India where there this particular depiction of Vishnu as Hayagriva (the horse headed god) with his Wives is depicted, though in an earlier style. This piece must have been used for worship as there are remnants of aged red paint or wax on the foreheads of the figures. This is most likely a relief from an old doorway.
