Item up for sale is an amazing antique two volume set titled \"The Life of Daniel Webster\" by George Ticknor Curtis published as a second edition in 1870. Daniel Webster is one of the most famous orators and statesmen in American history with time served as a Congressman and Senator from Massachusetts and as the U.S. Secretary of State on two occasions. Set was published by D. Appleton Company of New York. Both volumes have hard backs with leather covered spine areas and corner tabs. Leather on both volumes shows surface wear, tear and loss with no leather covered portions of cover boards showing graphic fade and surface wear throughout. Edges and corners of each volume show wear with page edges on each volume showing a patterned design. Pages in each volume show yellowing from age with pages all showing varying degrees of foxing / brown spotting which is common in aged paper. Volume 1 shows hand written names of previous owners on a pre title page with pre title pages showing handwritten old used book store prices. Volume 2 shows handwritten names of previous owners. Binding on each volume is tight.Each book measures 9-1/4\" top to bottom by 6-3/8\" wide with both books together measuring 3-1/2\" total combined depth.
