PLEASE NOTE: for those collector’s who may not know the difference between a “Standard Oil Company” stock certificate and a “Standard Oil Trust” stock certificate, the “Standard Oil Company” stocks were issued before the “Standard Oil Trust” was formed in 1882. The “Standard Oil Company” stocks are VERY RARE compared to those stocks for the “Standard Oil Trust”, for which 1000’s were issued. This is a SUPERB opportunity to acquire a rarely seen stock for an IMPORTANT American company SIGNED by one of the giants of American capitalism.

EARLY, authentic “Standard Oil Company” STOCK CERTIFICATE #26 genuinely SIGNED / AUTOGRAPHED by business magnate and philanthropist John D. Rockefeller (as company PRESIDENT). The stock was ISSUED to “Josiah Macy Jr.” in the amount of 250 SHARES and is genuinely SIGNED by Josiah Macy Jr. on the stock book stub that is attached along the left side of the stock certificate. Josiah Macy Jr. has SIGNED his name just below the text that reads - “Received the above described Certificate”.

Josiah Macy Jr. (1837- 1876) died the year after this certificate was issued. Macy was a New York City philanthropist whose early New York oil refinery was purchased by the “Standard Oil Company”. The ”Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation” was established by his daughter in 1930.

The stock certificate is dated April 7th 1875 and is also genuinely SIGNED / AUTOGRAPHED by businessman Henry M. Flager TWICE, once on the front as “Standard Oil Company” SECRETARY and again on the backside on April 6th 1882. Just after Flagler’s signature on the backside, as the Standard Oil Co. SECRETARY, Flager writes in his own hand in red ink – “upon the delivery to the Estate of Josiah Macy Jr.” Shares of the “Standard Oil Trust”. The “Standard Oil Trust” was formed in 1882. Below Flagler’s signature, “Wm H. Macy Jr.” has signed his name as the EXECUTOR of the “Estate Josiah Macy Jr.”. The Standard Oil Company’s embossed seal is located in the upper right portion of the stock. The stock certificate was printed by “Maverick, Stephan & Co.” of New York.

JOHN D. ROCKEFELLER (1839 - 1937) was a prominent businessman, philanthropist, and one of the wealthiest Americans of all time. He founded the Standard Oil Company in 1870, which went on to monopolize the oil industry in the United States. Rockefeller spent the last 40 years of his life in retirement. He donated over $80 million to the University of Chicago and created the Rockefeller foundation in 1913, to which he gave over $182 million. He started the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial Foundation in 1918, and it was later absorbed into the Rockefeller Foundation. During his lifetime, John D. Rockefeller’s philanthropy was immense, giving away more than $540 million.

CONDITION: stock certificate is guaranteed authentic and original (NOT a copy). It measures about 6 ½ x 15 ¼ inches in size (with the stock book stub attached along the left border). Stock is in EXCELLENT overall condition, with a dark signature by John D. Rockefeller. There are three light vertical folds, two on the stock certificate itself and another on the attached stock book stub. There are NO rips or tears (see scans). The signatures / autographs of John D.
