Achille Courret was a French photographer based in the city of Lima (Peru).
He arrived in the Peruvian capital in 1860 to work as a cameraman in the photographic studio of Eugène Maunoury. In 1863 he founded with his brother Eugene the studio “Central Photography”. In 1887 he left the studio to Adolphe Dubreuil and then returned to France, where he continued his photographic work. The Courret studio went bankrupt in 1935; The archive then had more than 157,000 negatives. Because of this, many of his workers were given glass negatives as part of their payment. Among those who received such payment was the Rengifo family, who maintain an archive of approximately 55,000+ glass and acetate plates. In 1986, said family offered said file to the National Library of Peru so that it could be safeguarded.A Museum PieceShipped with USPS First Class .
