Very nice, pre-zoomorphic style 8-7th Century BC Scythian Gold Appliqué. The piece is in great shape with all the ornate details present. It weighs 1.45 Grams and the gold content was tested and was found to be in the 22-23K range.
Scythian people worshipped gold and as a nomad society, would bury their dead with the gold. Most Scythian gold pieces are found in Eastern Europe and west Asia, this specific piece most likely came from modern day Kazakhstan. It was bought from someone who got it from a Ukraine collection. It's a very nice and especially old piece which well exemplifies the masterful techniques some of the earliest metalsmith mastered. If you have any questions I'm happy to help.
