Genuine antique Russian lacquer box with traditional Russian folk motif based on the fairy tale about the Magic Horse called Sivka-Burka. Hand-made and hand-painted in the village of Palekh in the 1970s -- not a contemporary mass-produced souvenir or run-of-the-mill photo decoupage. Inscribed in English "Made in USSR" and signed and numbered by the artist in Cyrillic stating that it was made in Palekh and painted by V. Terekhin.
Historically, Palekh was one of the important centers of icon painting in Russia. Among other well known Russian villages where traditional lacquer boxes were made, Palekh painted miniatures are among the most valuable, admired for their especially intricate and detailed quality of painting. 3 by 2.5 by 1 inches.Original Russian price tag.Perfect condition.
