A 6 1/4 inch wideORIGINAL ANTIQUE souvenir plate from YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK WYOMINGwith a colorful hand painted picture ofOLD FAITHFUL GEYSERspouting off on schedule. This is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE plate, ca.early 1900s, well OVER 100 years old.

Plate reads: \"Old Faithful Geyser, 150 Ft. Yellowstone Park\".
Back reads: Backside reads \"Hand-painted and Imported for / Geo. Whittaker / Yellowstone Park, Wyo. ... The Jonroth Studios Hand-painted / Germany\". For history of who George Whittaker is, see below in BLUE.
Condition: Plate is in EXCELLENT CLEAN condition. It has minimal wear, NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. Some of the wording in \'Geo. Whittaker\' is weak (on the backside - see picture) but this is the case for ALL of these plates we\'ve seen. The plate holder is NOT part of this sale, it is just a prop to hold the plate for photo\'ing. Please see pictures for best idea of overall appearance / condition.
Age: An ORIGINAL ANTIQUE souvenir china plate, ca. late 1800s - early 1900, well over 100 years old.

Thisis a scarce, early and authenticate antique souvenir plate . The picture on the front ishand painted and is NOTHING SHORT of a piece of art. Antique plates like this are very desirable as they have the name of the area, town and state that they are souvenirs of andhave colorful scenes, pictures, designs, logos on them. For example this one has \'OLD FAITHFUL Geyer on it and the backside has the name of Yellowstone Park Wyoming on it along with the nameGeo. Whittaker. George Whittaker was a soldier of the 6th Cavalry at Fort Yellowstone in the early 1890s. He went on to work as a Scout in the Park, helping to protect wildlife from poachers on and off until 1913 when he purchased a general store in Mammoth, which included the post office and became the Yellowstone Park store. There is little doubt that this was the time when he started having souvenirs made and imported, for sales in his store, and when he ordered these plates made by the Jonroth Studios, in Germanyto sell at the Yellowstone Park store in its earliest beginnings. Note the antique plates that were stamped with the made In Germany mark on the back side is exactly what antique dealer\'s look for to authenticate a piece like this as being truly antique. Back in this time period of souvenir china(late 1800\'s - early 1900\'s) Germany was the place that was producing this quality antique china.
