Austro-Hungarian Empire \"Madonna\" Saber:

Excellent example of an Austro-Hungarian Empire \"Madonna\" saber dating from about the middle of the 18th century. These were used by the Austo-Hungarian hussars and remained in use until about 1811. Widely copied by other European powers, famous sabers such as the British 1796 LC was famous designed after its progenitor Le Marchant witnessed their usage. The French likewise used a similar saber during the Old Monarchy and Revolutionary period. Supposedly the silver trim confers Royal Guard usage.
One side has Mother Maria standing on a crescent moon, with the text below it: \"Maria Mater Dei Patrona Hungaria Subtuum Presidium Confugio\"
The other side has a Patriarchal Cross with the text \"In hoc ligno Vinces\" above, and below \"Deus Exercituum Bellator Fortifsime Esto mecum\"
Excellent example with a storied history. The leather has age wear, and some minor holes but the saber is in otherwise excellent condition.
