Authentic Imperial Faberge Cradle Of Garlands Egg (Trophy Egg):
$5560.00

This Stunning replica of the famous Faberge Cradle Egg, was commissioned and created with the approval of Karl Fabergé's only living descendant, his granddaughter Tatiana Fabergé. Exclusively sold in very limited numbers by Nieman Marcus

The egg suggests a cradle decorated with garlands and the original surprise was the first portrait of the Czarevich in a medallion surrounded by real Austrian crystals. The egg, of an elegant pale blue enamel guilloché, is crafted in the Louis XVI style. The top is accented with a border of pink enamel roses, emerald green enameled vines and panels of oyster enamel. It sits in a crystal studded gold cradle that is supported by four columns depicting Cupid's arrows set with crystals and is accented with a hanging garland of pink enameled roses. The whole is supported by a carved base accented with pink flowers on a blue enamel field and stands on four golden bun feet. A surprise of a jeweled medallion rests in the lined interior. Height 6½” in stand. This amazing piece comes in its custom Faberge presentation case.

Additional History of The Cradle Of Garlands Egg:

Faberge Imperial Cradle with Garlands Egg BRAND NEW ! When Czar Nicholas II presented the delicate Rose Trellis Egg to his wife Empress Alexandra on Easter morning 1907, he also presented the Cradle with Garlands Egg to his Mother, the Dowager Empress Maria Fedorovna. The Cradle of Garlands Egg has also been called the Trophy Egg but the name Cradle with Garlands Egg is more fitting. It was a tradition that the appearance and contents of the Fabergé Easter Eggs were adapted to events in the life of the Romanov family. Both the Rose Trellis Egg and the Cradle with Garlands Egg were commissioned to celebrate the birth of Czarevich Alexei Nicholaievich, son of Czar Nicholas II – the long awaited heir to the Romanov throne. The egg suggests a cradle decorated with garlands and the original surprise was the first portrait of the Czarevich in a medallion surrounded by diamonds.

In 1885, The Tsar Alexander III commissioned Fabergé to design a simple matte white enamel egg for his wife Maria Fedorovna. The Imperial Hen Egg is enameled in opaque white, and polished to give the effect of an eggshell. The shell concealed a removable surprise of matte yellow, gold yolk. Inside the yolk sits a plump golden hen. The Tsarina was so delighted with this elegant Easter gift, that a family tradition was born. Fabergé was now called upon to design an egg every year, and every each of them contained its own special surprise. At first, the Tsar dictated the design of the egg. He would monitor its progress from start to finish. But eventually, in an extraordinary gesture, he gave Fabergé complete creative freedom – no questions asked. As the ritual continued, the relationship between the Tsar and Fabergé became more familiar. The eggs were now hand-delivered to the palace by Fabergé himself on each Easter morning.
