Blackfoot Couple - 2 Winold Reiss Great Northern Railway 1940 Litho Prints:

Offered is this 2 Print Lot consisting of Winold Reiss prints published in 1940, the subjects being two Blackfeet American Indians - Husband and Wife.

These Two Lithograph Prints were Originally part of a 24-Print package titled "BLACKFEET INDIANS OF GLACIER NATIONAL PARK".  Pristine Condition.  Each Print was reproduced from an original painting by artist Winold Reiss, who was commissioned to paint Blackfeet Indian portraits for the Great Northern Railway.  These 1940 Prints are © Great Northern Ry Co., and now over 80 years old, yet remain in Mint Condition.  These were published in 1940 by Brown and Bigelow, U.S.A.

These are original lithograph prints.  Not cut from a magazine or calendar.  Colors and features are outstanding.  Each portrait image is within a 7½" x 10" red-lined border, within the Prints that measure 9" x 12", allowing an ample border for framing.  

Winold Reiss (1888-1953) was a German-born American Painter who came to the West in 1919 to paint American Indians.  He specialized in painting the Blackfeet Indians of Northern Montana who lived in the area now designated as Glacier National Park.

These Two Prints feature a married man and woman of the Blackfeet Tribe.  The title of the 2 Prints are:

SCALPING WOMAN - Wife of NIGHT SHOOTS

• NIGHT SHOOTS - a member of the Pecunnie Brave Society and a picturesque figure at all Blackfeet gatherings
