We are offering "Chaussures d'Antan" [Shoes of Yesteryear] by Jerome Doucet. Paris, Devambez. 1913. First Edition. Limited Edition - one of ten copies printed on Japan paper with four color plates. Preface by Jean Richepin. Illustrated by Maurice Leloir. (7 1/4" x 10 1/4"; 40 pages). Text in French, that we assume is giving some of the history of the periods of time depicted.There are 4 full-page color plates of watercolors by Maurice Leloir: a young maiden and her lover; an impressive fancily dressed man; a man on his horse; and Emperor Napoleon. There are 4 tipped-in photographic plates of boots and shoes worn during different eras. The color plates and the photographic plates all have protective tissue paper. Also, there are illustrations printed in orange throughout. The inside of the book cover has a very nice steel-cut engraved bookplate with the name Marguerite Jacobs.
The first of the color plates is titled "La Chaussure au Moyen Age" [Shoes of the Middle Ages}; the second is titled "Bottes due XVI Siecle" [16th Century Boots]; the third is titled "Souliers et Bottes due XVIII Siecle" [Shoes and Boots of the 18th Century]; and the last is titled "La Botte sous 'Empire" [Boot Under the Empire].
CONDITION: Pages are in Excellent Condition. Covers show some soiling and wear at top & bottom of the spine.
