Walz completed 4 Space Missions where he was a Mission Specialist aboard STS-51 in 1993, an Orbital Flight Engineer (MS-2) aboard STS-65 in 1994; a Mission Specialist aboard STS-79 in 1999, and a Flight Engineer aboard the International Space Station, as part of Expedition 4 from 2001-2002. He was also a distinguished Colonel in the USAF with a Masters Degree in Physics. With the Expedition 4 Mission, Walz and another astronaut set a new U.S. Space Endurance Record of 195 days, 16 hours and 33 minutes.
