Castleford Neoclassical Teapot c. 1795 - 1810:
$550.00

Circa 1810 Castleford Neoclassical Teapot. A rare Castleford Pottery teapot, neoclassical style (Regency period), attributed to David Dunderdale & Co in operation from 1790 to 1821. It has a different relief image on the front and back. There are a few characteristics that make this teapot so collectible:

- includes feldspar in the body and is the only non-porcelain pottery which has a translucence when held in direct light;

- Castleford Pottery in Mexborough, Yorkshire, England became synonymous with these fine wares so that they are often referred to as "Castleford" stoneware;

- the wares are known for their outstanding workmanship and technical excellence;

- production for these wares was very short (from 1790-1821) consequently, they are hard to find outside of museums.
