$2999.95

Rare Forties War Comic:Contact! This sale Includes:
LOT OF1 VINTAGE COMIC BOOK: CONTACT COMICS#2 CGC 6.5 With Exceptional Off-White To White Pages, From 1944, By Aviation Press. The Finest Copy Ever Graded By CGC Is A 7.0 File Copy, So This Glorious \"Runner-Up\" Is In Rarified Air Indeed. Plus, It\'s So Elusive That It\'s One Of The Few \'Gerber No-Shows\', Those Uber-Rare Comics That Are Not Shown In The Invaluable Gerber Photo-Journals, And For A While, It Was Thought By Many Of Us That This Issue Didn\'t Exist Or That The Second Issue Of The Series Used The Same Cover Image That Was Repeated Again On A Later Issue, #8, With The Lame Peace And Unity Depiction Instead Of Actual Air Combat. Then, Over The Years Some Real Examples Of #2 Found Their Way To CGC, Cementing It As A Bona-Fide Grail To Aspire To Locate For Devout Fans. All The While, Overstreet Is So Oblivious About The Little-Known Second Issue That It STILL Lists It As Having A Sci-Fi Cover; While Cole\'s Memorable Depiction Of The Japanese Pilot May Be Seen As Stereotypical Or Extra-Ethnic, It Certainly Does Not Look Like A Space Alien, Nor Are Their Aircraft Flying Saucers, So Let\'s Hope The Overstreet Price Guide Gets Corrected Before Too Many Additional Decades Pass. Throughout All These Ensuing Years Since The Release Of Those Big Gerber Guides In 1989, This Issue Has Earned A Legendary Near-Mythical Status Among Cole Fans And WWII-Comic Completists. This Displays One Of L.B. Cole\'s Classic Wartime Aviation Covers With A Pair Of American Paratroopers Attacking The Japanese Zeros, Exploding One Enemy Fighter Plane While The Other G.I. Is So Accurate With His Rifle That He Shoots The Actual Pilot Instead! The Black Venus Superhero Story Was Drawn By The Masterful Rudy Palais, And Since This Was 1944 It Predictably Has Spy & Espionage Themes. The \"Beasts With Wings\" Tale Is By The Skilled John Giunta. The Underrated Lou Ferstadt Drew The \"Sky Blazers\" War Story. The \"Flight Out Of Fire\"Tale Features The Hero Golden Eagle. Nina Albright Drew The \"Rubber Cows\" War-Themed Story. The \"Doom From The Skies\" Story Stars Tommy Tomahawk. L.B. Cole Did Two Short Stories As Well. Most Stories Include Airplanes In Thrilling Action. This Essential Golden-Age Comic Was Released In The Middle Of 1944, -- Pre-Dating His Iconic Mask Comics. Both Mask Issues Have Already Become Too Expensive For Most Collectors, And It\'s Likely His Other Early Efforts Will Gain Steam As More Fans Around The Globe Discover His Inimitable Timeless Style, While Supplies Of Intact Examples Remain Sparse. This ObscureIssue By Arguably The Hottest Artist In The Medium Is Crucial To Any Advanced Collector But It\'s Always Been Rare In AnyShape,So Don\'t Miss This Chance To Procure A Stellar Well-Preserved Example Or You May End Up Settling For A Photocopy Replica Instead. The Pre-Code Horror, Crime, And Science-Fiction Craze Was Still Years Away, Yet This Small-Press Title Already Contained Lurid Content Including WWII Combat And Extreme Violence And/Or Treating Police Contemptuously And Good Girl Art And Other Classic Elements Of The Gritty Comics From Before The Advent Of The Comics Code Authority. The Patriotic, Pulp Fiction, Anti-Nazi, Suspense, War, Good-Girl And True Crime & Detective Themes Never Go Out Of Style! This hails from a cool, dry, smoke-free, climate-controlled environment. It has deep rich colors and contains bone-white paper inside, the eye-appeal is amazing for the assigned numeric grade. See the various pictures, although most give it a washed-out appearance when it looks bold and brilliant in person.Important issue for any Golden-Age WWII comic collector or Cole fiend or collector of scarce classic cover comics.MATERIAL LIKE THIS SPOTLIGHTING ICONIC THEMES OF CINEMA, TELEVISION, POP CULTURE AND LITERATURENEVER LOSES APPEAL.
