How did a dinosaur transition from Dracorex to a dinosaur that looks completely different in the head gear? The driving mechanisms behind this transformation were metaplastic bone and extensive remodeling of the skull. The spikes and skull bones seen in Dracorex changed shape to form the spiky dome in Stygimoloch before further changing form to resemble the adult pachycephalosaurus.
