MIMETITE var Campylite:Dry Grill Mine, Cumberland, United Kingdom. Dimensions: 2.4 x 2.2 x 1.9cm, thumbnail. The Dry Gill Mine in England is world-famous for producing some of the most distinctive specimens of Mimetite, specifically the phosphate-bearing variety called \"Campylite\". For a time, this was actually considered to be a valid species, and you can still find the name appearing in old mineralogy textbooks. The distinctive yellowish to orangish color and somewhat spherical barrel-shaped crystals are some of the most well known of all English minerals. This piece features numerous, lustrous, sparkling, dark yellow, almost spherical aggregates of Campylite on a white matrix visible on the backside. The largest Campylite group measures 7 mm across. This is an excellent, old-time thumbnail specimen of this well-known historic material from the Trafford Flynn collection of thumbnail minerals at a very reasonable price.
