- Euclase dimensions:20 mm x 17 mm x 13 mm / 0.79" x 0.67" x 0.51" approx.
- Euclase origin:La Marina Mine, Pauna, Western Boyacá Province, Boyacá Department, Colombia.
Renamed in 1860 from the original apatite of Abraham Werner by Carl F. Rammelsberg to emphasize the chemical composition. Apatite is from the Greek ἀπατάω (apatao), to deceive, as apatite was often confused with other minerals (e.g. beryl, milarite). Rammelsberg added the "Fluor-" prefix in allusion to the dominance of fluorine in the composition. See Weiss (2012) and Meier (2013) for the nomenclature history of apatite. A classic specimen of the beautiful pink fluorapatite specimens from the La Marina Mine in Colombia (not too far from the famous emerald mines in Boyaca Province). This attractive specimen features very sharp, highly lustrous, well-formed, tabular crystals of strong pink colored apatite.
