FRANCE (1865) French Line Built by Chantier de l’Atlantique, St. Nazaire, Frane.Tonnage: 3,300. Dimensions 355’x43’. Paddle-wheels, 12 knots, side lever engines.Two masts and two funnels. Launched October 1, 1864. In France-West Indiesservice 1865-73. Lengthened to 395 feet in 1874. Converted to screw propulsion:Compound engines, also mizzen mast was added in 1874. Placed in Havre-New Yorkservice. Transferred back to West Indies trade in 1883. Broken up by Frenchshipbreakers in 1910. Note: Vessel was listed as La France in some directories.
