1821 folded letter from William Penn-Gaskell, great, great grandson of William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania, to his brother Peter then living in the Radnor suburb of Philadelphia. Contents regard estate setlement and family matters. Datelined \"Chapel near Halstead Dec 31, 1821\" with HALSTEAD/Penny Post hand stamp and red Paid date cancel.

William and Peter Gaskell were sons of Christiana Gulielma Penn (1733-1803). She was the great granddaughter of William Penn. She married Peter Gaskell in 1761 and thereafter the family used the surname Penn-Gaskell.

Halstead is a traditional market townon the River Colne,in the Braintree District of Essex England.
