Legendary United States Army Officer and Brevet Major General GEORGE ARMSTRONG CUSTER scarce and authentic HANDWRITTEN NOTE on a scrap of lined paper signed, as "Gen'l Custer". Custer requisitions the purchase "for one dozen chairs" for "fifteen dollars". The note is countersigned in unknown hand.


Custer writes, "[unknown word?] Nov 16, 1873 Rec'dof Genl Custer $15.00 fifteen dollars for [company name?] in payment for one doz chairs"


In 1873, Custer was sent to the Dakota territory to protect arailroad survey party against the Lakota.On August 4, 1873, near the Tongue River, the7th Cavalry Regimentclashed for the first time with the Lakota. One man on each side was killed. In November of that year, Custer and his wife Libbie moved into Fort Abraham Lincoln in the Dakota Territory. This fort not only served to help ensuretheexpansion of the Northern Pacific Railway, butalso a base where the 7th Cavalry could establish American military power on the Plains.
