Hungary Kingdom:ORIGINAL WW2 Scarce Hungarian Front Line Fighters Cross or FireCross (Tűz Kereszt) - Instituted on 24 November 1941 in three categories. Thisone has swords and a laurel wreath around the central medallion and was awarded forthree months\' front-line duty as a combatant. It is one piece cast bronzewith a replacement ribbon. The central medallion is inscribed ‘A HAZÁÉRT’ (forthe homeland); on the lower arm is ‘1942’, which reflects the year the awardwas made. The reverse shows no year. Several collectors (discussedin military club archives) have noted theexistence of such a variation--a one-piece bronze castwith photos similar to this piece. It is possible that this piece may be a latewar field-cast or even a manufactured one. There were several manufacturers ofHungarian medals and orders during the war and some omitted the \'1941\' designrequirement. So, there are examples of originalcast one piece fire crosses without ‘1941’ stamped into the reverse. I have seen modern mass-produced reproductions ofthis medal for re-enactors but all show the reverse date “1941”.
