An Important Medieval Seal Stamp, Wax Seal Stamp, Petschaft Circa 1550 with carnelian seal depicting a pelican pecking its own flesh to feed its young with its own drops of blood. The bronze seal with 9 facets descending to an oval at the seal base.
The pelican was believed to pierce its ownbreast with its beak and feed its young of its blood. It becamea symbol of Christsacrificing himself for man– and because of this was frequently represented inChristian art.
A very rare ancient seal stamp.
Condition: Overall in excellent condition for its age with a slight bend to hanging loop, Deep brown age patina.
