JOHN NOWILL & Sons Authentic Fairbairn Sykes Commando Knife with Ribbed Grip and Metal-Tipped Leather Leg Sheath, Made in Sheffield, England, BRAND NEW!!

Here we have the famous Fairbairn Sykes British Commando Knife -- guaranteed NEW and GENUINE.  Made by John Nowill & Sons, thse knives are marked witht eh MOD's (Ministry of Defense) broad arrow mark and the Diamond "H" F.E. & J.R. Hopkinson MOD manufacturer's mark along with "J. Nowill & Sons Sheffield England" on the underside of the fingerguard.  Again, this item is GUARANTEED authentic.  This is the "more common" ribbed grip model. 

The Commandos were formed during 1940 at the strategic directive of Winston Churchill and following a suggestion to the War Office by Captains W.E Fairbairn & E.A. Sykes they were equipped with a new style fighting knife in early 1941.  This particular design of the F-S knife is a tribute to the Third Pattern Commando Dagger that has withstood the test of time.

The 6-7/8" inch long, double edged carbon steel blade is Parkerized to a rich, beautifully deep black color.  The knife is just over 11-1/2 inches long.  The metal handle is ribbed for an excellent grip.  The blade guard is marked underneath (on the handle side) "J. NOWILL & SONS SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND" and has the appropriate Nowill markings.  

The included black leather leg sheath is metal-tipped to protect both the wearer and the blade's tip, and also has 2.25" belt slots (these will fit most belts up to 2" wide, allowing for the thickness of the belt itself).  The leather tabs on the leg sheath were intended to be sewn to a pant leg during the war, but this style of sheath served a double-purpose and could also be worn on a belt if desired.

These knives come unsharpened; there is a bevel at the edge, but it is dull; the factory black finish is applied over the entire blade.  The soldier the knife was issued to was expected to complete the sharpening and maintain it to his liking.  John Nowill & Sons is still in operation in the United Kingdom today and these knives are still made in the same factory they were made during WWII!  

This knife is guaranteed BRAND NEW!  This is a new, currently manufactured knife.  It is not an antique, vintage or "period" knife, but it is still quite desirable and collectible.  They are manufactured by John Nowill & Sons in the Sheffield, England (the United Kingdom) factory.  They are NOT Chinese imports.
