This vintage Tarahumara / Ramamuri clay \"olla\" is a unique piece of Mexican pottery. The handmade vessel features raw hide ties and was crafted by the Native American Tarahumara people in the 1900s. Its provenance is not available, but it is a true collector\'s item. The intricate design and craftsmanship reflect the rich culture of Mexican pottery-making. This item is a must-have for any collector of Latin American or Native American art.
Vintage 1900\'s Native American Tarahumara / Ramamuri Clay \"Olla\" Raw Hide Ties. Item is used and shows some signs of wear but in over all very good condition for a piece of pottery of this age. This pot seems to have been made by using the \"Coil\" technique commonly used amongst Native American Mexican tribes. This is to say, it was not created on a potters wheel but rather by rolling out clay ropes and placing them one over the other while fusing them together with \"slip\" (clay slurry) to bind the clay and form the pot. The pot was then fired in a pit, and \"baked\" with wood and coals.
Hight: 8 inches, mouth opening approximately 4 inches, neck 3 inches, 12 inches in Circumference
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This item was purchased at sale from a collector in the Gig Harbor area of Washington state. The collector informed us that his father purchased the vessel in Chihuahua, Mexico while researching the Ramamuri tribe of the northern region of that state. He told us it was purchased in the early 1920\'s. No other information on this beautiful vessel is available.
