MANGAL Antique c.1850 TRADITIONAL TURKISH HEATER Brass & Copper BAGGAGE BATTLES

An antique Turkish Mangal made of Brass, Copper, and Wood, featured on the Baggage Battles TV show.

We are pleased to present this antique Turkish Mangal for your consideration. It was purchased by Laurence and Sally Martin, owners of Studio Antiques, on an episode of the Travel Channel's hit TV show Baggage Battles (season 3 episode 3, titled "Bunny Money" and filmed in Denver, Colorado). We've included some clips from the episode among our pictures. It was a featured item on the Baggage Battles episode and received significant air time.

A Mangal is an antique heating device, used around the mid-1800's. Water was placed in the vessel below the lid, and a heat source was placed underneath. Steam would be created and released through the holes in the lid, heating the surrounding area. Ours is constructed from brass, with the water vessel being made of hammered copper. The base is brass, with a wood platform underneath.

The Mangal has an overall height of about 36 inches, with the base measuring about 37-1/2 inches in diameter. The overall weight is 62 pounds (the four pieces combined), which breaks down as follows:

Brass Lid: 4 pounds

Copper & Brass Water Vessel: 7-1/2 pounds

Brass Platform: 24 pounds

Brass & Wood Base: 26-1/2 pounds

Wear is age appropriate, and there is no significant damage or issues. There are many dings and small imperfections, acquired from years of use and due to the limitations of 1800's manufacturing technology. We rate the overall condition as very good (see pictures).
