Garnet Joseph Wolseley (June 4, 1833 – March 25, 1913), 1st Viscount Wolseley, was a British field marshal.
Garnet Joseph Wolseley served in Burma, during the Crimean War (1854-1856), the sepoy revolt (1857-1858), in China during the Franco-British expedition of 1860 which ended with the sack of the Palace of Summer, in Canada and Africa (including the brilliant Ashanti campaign of 1873-1874), in Egypt (during the Anglo-Egyptian War of 1882) and in the Sudan). He led the British relief army that came to counter the Siege of Khartoum, but he arrived too late, in January 1885, to avoid the massacre of the starving besieged.

November 21, 1901 General Lord Welseley presents his compliments to Mr Eugène Belleroche, who is interested in the history of Harlborough, and lives at 65 Rue de Stassart in Brussels (Ixelles). He indicates to be in the Mediterranean until May 15th. "However, if you would kindly write me a short message, care of our Embassy in Constantinople until December 12. I would be delighted to hear from you"
