I like all the \"Super Mental Series\" items that Tenyo came out with in 2017 and 2018. Clean and \"ordinary looking\" props. Of all the items, this is perhaps my least favorite, but in the company of so many great items, that is not to say I do not recommend this one.

Why my least favorite...? Well, this set of props and routine uses two different methods and method #1 is not always reliable -- it requires a good light source coming from the proper direction. And because of that limitation, this Flash Cards routine cannot always be performed in its entirety in all conditions. (of course, that is true of many excellent effects, I guess.)

Assuming a good lighting set-up (which you can generally manage to find), the effect is this: show a set of language flash cards, designed to teach Japanese kanji characters and their meaning. The cards (about 20 of them) have the Kanji character, Japanese pronunciation and also the English translation. The cards are conveniently kept on a metal ring, with a couple of plastic covers to protect them. Take the cards off the ring, and out of the covers, and let the spectator shuffle them. She shuffles and cuts the cards, and you pick up the top card and show it to her -- its back to you, of course. She memorizes the word/image on the card. You divine it without any questions. Repeat. To end, you have her shuffle the cards and then cut a packet off the shuffle packet. She looks at the FACE card of the packet she cut (so there is no possibility that you could see a marked back of the card). You then draw an impression on a pad of paper, and the spectator names her word/image. Your drawing matches her thought!

Props are nicely made, and (given appropriate lighting) this is a strong performance piece.
