This is a very rare and limited Evans cigarette case lighter commemorating an early aviation milestone. In 1931 Russell Boardman and John Polando flew non-stop from New York to Istanbul, Turkey for a record 5011 miles. The plane was a single engineBellanca Special named the \"Cape Code\". The lighter was made in a very limited number and only given to those attending a special \"Welcome Home\" ceremony inHyannis, MA on August 26, 1931. Unfortunately, both pilots eventually died due toflying accidents. One of theselighters is in the Smithsonian collection. Thisobject is a wonderful example of early aviation history. The lighter/case has seen a fair amount of use and wear. It has wear to the chrome plating andsome dents and scuffs. The lighter doesn\'t currently work, but I believe that it wouldn\'ttake much to get it working. The lighter/case measures 4 1/4\" x 2 1/2\" x 1/2\". Please see all photos.
