Very rare twist-action polychrome bell, featuring a neoclassical putti or angel figure. No maker\'s-mark, and no others like this one can be found; possibly French or Italian? The style of casting is similar to \'cold-painted\' sculptures once produced in Austria.Lovely, gentle sound. Made of what appear to be cast and painted metals. Unsure if intended for counter, desk, door, or wall-hanging; it doesn\'t lay perfectly flat, so likely to be hung. Looks like the style of ringer that might hang in a New Orleans bordello back in the 19th century. Could possibly be much older.Bell measure approximately 6 x 3 x 2 inches. Nice heavy weight of 345 grams -- well over half a pound.Overall condition is heavily patinated; significant wear and chips to polychrome painting on figure and bell; also small area of damage on the reverse of the figurine. That said, all of these qualities very much add to the elegant charm of this unusual bell!Delightful sound! Displays beautifully!
