Rare Broadway Producer Roger L Stevens Signed Photo Vintage Tony Award Winner.
This is a rare autographed 8x10 photo of longtime Broadway producer (West Side Story, Bus Stop, Cat On a Hot Tin Roof) and Special Tony Award winner Roger L. Stevens. Stevens was also the founding Chairman of the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts (1961) and National Endowment for the Arts (1965). This lot contains the signed photo, along with his National Endowment for the Arts bio from about 1966.
Signature is in ball point pen and says, "Roger L Stevens".
Condition note: Photo has some wear around the corners and edges, bio has some wear and some tanning around the edges (see photos).
More on Mr. Stevens:
Roger Lacey Stevens was born in 1910 in Detroit, Michigan and attended The Choate School in Wallingford, Connecticut. He got involved in a real estate deal purchasing the Empire State Building in 1951. Stevens produced over 130 Broadway plays and musicals from 1939 to 1994. Some of these included Peter Pan, Tea and Sympathy, Bus Stop, Cat On a Hot Tin Roof, West Side Story, The Visit, Deathtrap, Death of a Salesman, Love Letters, and She Loves Me. He was a 12-time Tony Award nominee, winning twice (Death of a Salesman and A Man for All Seasons). He was also presented a special Tony Award in 1971. Stevens passed away in 1998.
