Rare D’Orsay Powder Box with Zodiac Signs Around Greek Goddess Artemis & Cupid Rare D’Orsay Powder Box with Zodiac Signs Around Greek Goddess Artemis & Cupid Click images to enlarge Description Up for sale is a rare D’Orsay Powder Box with Zodiac Signs around the Greek Goddess Artemis & the Cupid. This is a cardboard box with a cellophane wrapped around the lid. There are several tears in the cellophane, but box still shows well.
Artemis was the twin sister of Appollo the god of the sun and she was reh goddess of the moon, the hunt and the wilderness. (You can see she is holding her bow in the picture.) She was also known to be a defender of women and children, using her bow and arrow.
Around the picture of Artemis are the zodiac signs. I will start with the scales at the top and go around: - The Scales – Libra – Sept 23 – Oct 22
- Scorpio – Scorpion – Octo 23 – Nov 21
- The Centaur – Sagittarius - Nov 22 – Dec 21
- The Goat – Capricorn - Dec 22 – Jan 19
- The Water Bearer – Aquarius - Jan 20 – Feb 20th
- Pices – The Fish – Feb 19 – March 20
- The Ram – Aries – March 21 – April 19
- Taurus – Bull—April 20 – May 20
- The Twins – Gemini –May 21 – June 20
- The Crab – Cancer – June 21 – July 22
- The Lion – Leo – July 23 – Aug 22
- The Virgin – Virgo – Aug 23 – Set 22
- The underside of the powder box is in fair condition – it is worn from use and there is a dark spot which could have been where the original price tag was.
- There are 3 spots on the sides where there is a hole in the cellophane or a tear in cellophane. You could always remove this if this bothered you, but the cellophane has helped keep the cardboard clean over the years.
- I emptied the powder, and so there are only remnants under the cover paper with the D’Orsay logo.
- The dimensions of the box are: 1 1/8 “tall and 3 1/8 inches round.
