Prohibition brought the opportunity to the Maceo BrothersWho opened a \"club\" on a pier at 21st and Seawall Blvd. in Galveston Texas.
Known as the Chop Suey and later named Grotto.
In 1929...it was closed by the Feds for illegal gambling.
The location was heavily damaged by a storm and remodeled intoSui Jen Tokyo Ballroom in 1932.Sui Jen was pronounced \"Sweet Wren\"....and here is one surviving $25illegal Poker Chip from the very Spot.
When World War II broke out, and the American public lost all taste for anythingJapanese related, and the \"club\" was once again renamed the Balinese Room.
In 2008, Hurricane Ike claimed the famous building and pier where the club was located.
The rest is History.......
As is this very Rare and sought After Poker Chip from the illegal heydays of theTexas Gulf Coast Golden Era.
