This new book from the TRRA serves as their 2022 release.The TRRA has become well-known for their well-researched and produced books onrailroads that served St. Louis, nicknamed the “Gateway to the West” or simplythe “Gateway City.” St. Louis served as the starting point for the MissouriPacific’s passenger service to Laredo, TX on the Mexican border. At St. Louis,the TRRA made up those trains for the MoPac. From Laredo they connected to the NationalRailway of Mexico with weekly through service to Mexico City. Such well-knownpassenger trains as the Aztec Eagle, Cityof Mexico, Aguila Azteca, and others completed service to Mexico City. Thisbook offers a comprehensive, illustrated history of some of the finestpassenger service from St. Louis to Mexico, via Little Rock, Hot Springs,Texarkana, Austin, San Antonio, Laredo, Nuevo Laredo, Monterey, San LuisPotosi, and finally the nation’s capital. With the participation of the Wabash,Texas & Pacific, Katy, and International & Great Northern, a throughservice began in 1906-08, bringing vacationers to thesouthern climes of Mexico to escape the US winters. Riders were treated toPullmans, exquisite dining, a barber shop, library, and first class personalservice that made the trip a special event.
