This rare and precious item is a Sudarium called Veronica's Veil, which is believed to have been used to wipe the face of Jesus on his way to Calvary. It is a handmade relic from the Holy See (Vatican City State) and carries the wax papal seal. The larger size of these 12.75 inches wide and 19.50 tall in a beautiful antique frame from the mid to late 19th century.. The Vatican stamp and wax seal is at the bottom and I suspect the Vatican cert is behind the solid wood backing. It's a box frame also of about 1 inch depth. This is the small tidy sized type of these first class relics, a Sudarium of silk and linen, an original 18th/19th century Vatican sealed relic of Veronicas veil. These are rare to find anymore.

This is a first class relic of the Veil of Veronica “sudarium”, touched to and made from the original which was briefly exposed in Vatican for this purpose on only ever a couple of occasions. Saint Veronica from Jerusalem encountered Jesus Christ along the Via Dolorosa on the way to Calvary, when she paused to touch his face with her veil, the image of our Lord was imprinted on the cloth. The relic is a copy on linen and contains a small part of the textile from the real genuine Veil of Veronica exposed at St. Peter Basilica in Vatican, with the original wax seals that assures the integrity of the relic.
