This is a really fantastic artifact. From either the Congo or Angola, this Chokwe mask is beautifully carved from a single piece of wood and has the best honey-brown patina you could want. There\'s nothing reasonably priced on to compare. Atop the head is a four-pointed crown separated from the face by rows of tiny glass beads. A disc comprised of the same beads decorates the forehead. In huge sockets, the eyes are cowrie shells. The is an iron ring through its nose and the teeth are depicted sharpened. It has a strongly jutting chin. There is a ding out of the right rear rim from a torn-out attachment hole (photo #5). There is a crack that runs down from the right side of the nose to the mouth\'s lower lip (photo #4) but it is absolutely stable. I have owned this for many years and the crack has not changed one iota. This is one of the finest masks it has been my pleasure to enjoy. All I remember about the seller is that he was selling African masks to further a well-digging project to help the residents there. I guarantee that you will admire this work of art. It is about 13 1/2\" tall. U.S. buyers please. [Boston Primitive]
