VTG Sufferring Moses Srinagar Kashmir 2 Stein Beer Mugs Wood Brass Carved Dragon.
These beautifully hand carved beer mug are fully hand made. Made by renowned family business in Kashmir called Suffering Moses.
The name “Suffering Moses” was meant to be symbolic, associated with the Biblical Moses and reflecting on his sacrifice and loneliness.
The shop, Suffering Moses, was started in 1840 and today is one of the last surviving businesses run by the practitioners of the old craft, which, according to its owners, is gradually being replaced by commercial work of lower quality.
The family prides themselves with long craftsman tradition being passed on from one family member to another. Each and every one of them was expert in a few designs and the family brought craft to Kashmir as one of a very few families, coming originally from Persia.
The brass inlay has been gently cleaned, still having some darker stains inside (please see pictures for more details). The outer wooden part is coming in good vintage condition and there’s no major damages to it.
The steins still have original label sticked to the bottom. The bottom part is also engraved.
The company’s love for details and a high quality woodwork shows in every single inch of these mugs. They are stunning.
