DESCRIPTION: This beautiful dresser set has a large scalloped, embossed tray and 2 round perfume bottles with gold painted stoppers. The artist, F.W., was quite talented as the roses look so realistic and dainty. Each spray has a bluish green wash around it to provide a background for the pink roses and their green leaves. The artist used the embossing on the tray to accent the gold decoration. The flanges on the perfume bottles are painted with solid gold paint as are the round balls atop the stoppers. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There is no wear on the gold.DIMENSIONS: The tray is 12 7/8\" handle to handle by 10\". Its height is 3/4\". The perfume bottles are 5 3/8\" to the top of the stopper with a widest diameter of 3 1/8\". HISTORY/MARKS: This set is unmarked except by the artist\'s initials, but has the style and character of Limoges items many of which were imported as whiteware blanks to be painted by talented American artists. This is quality porcelain that will enhance any dressing table while being a functional, decorative display set.

Update: This artist painted on Limoges porcelain, particularly JPL items. We have one JPL plate signed F.E.W. ’08 for 1908. The whiteware mark J.P. over L. with FRANCE is written in a crescent under the initials in green. This is Mary Frank Gaston’s Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain mark #5 which was used in the 1890-1932 time period. We have seen a Limoges tankard mug with the signature F.E. Willard and it had the same JPL mark #5. This dresser tray set has the F.W signature on the front of the tray and on the bottom side of one of the two perfume bottles. All of these signatures form the letters the same so we feel certain this is the same artist. Our estimation is female, American, painting in the early 1900’s on JPL porcelain imported as blanks from Limoges, France.
