A lot of care was taken to make sure that our authentic 1970s McSpoons are transformed into gorgeous pieces or functional art for you to use, and cherish forever.

Our gold plated Mcspoon is not a painted product. That is guaranteed. Paint cannot create the bling and sparkle of real gold. This is why we use a very expensive, electroplating process, it’s the best way to turn ordinary objects into priceless ones. 

We electroplate each plastic McSpoon in rich 24 karat gold without losing the original shape, texture or character of the original spoon.

The quality of the 24 karat gold is superior. The electroplating is done by an aerospace contractor who is well known for his work with NASA, and the U.S. military. Part scientist and part artist, our electroplating contractor uses pure 24 karat gold in this exacting and painstaking process.

Important: This is an original, 1970s, molded plastic, mass produced coffee spoon, the kind given free at McDonald’s in the 1970s. Although it’s covered in a thin layer of 24 karat gold which makes it more rigid, it is still just plastic inside. Handle with care.

Any slight imperfections on the spoon are due to the original manufacturing process, and the fact that they are actual vintage stock. Some size and design variation may occur as the design of the plastic spoons changed slightly over the years. 

These 1970s McSpoons are rare indeed.

She had learned about the spoon’s lurid double life and expressed concern that it was being used to both plow powder and make light of the drug problem in the country. Nalepka decided to reach out to McDonald’s then-president Edward Schmidt to see if he might be able to do something to legitimize the issue. “

“The drug paraphernalia industry says your tiny spoon-shaped coffee stirrer is being used as a co<^!ne spoon,” Nalepka said.

“What do you want me to do?”

“I’m testifying before the U.S. Senate tomorrow. I want you to say you’ll redesign the spoon and allow me to go back to the Senate hearing and announce that you don’t want to have your company associated with drug paraphernalia.”

Be gentle with your spoon. Since it is original and vintage don’t drop it, sit on it or use it on an abrasive surface like in stonewear mugs. Be careful with your little piece of history and you’ll preserve your finish. Please use a dry microfiber cloth and rub gently when you want to remove fingerprints and smudges from your spoon. Just a light rub and you’ll return your spoon to it’s original shine. Never use scrub pads or rough rags as they will scratch the finish.

Sizes and designs of spoon may vary slightly due to production changes and availability.

This is a vintage plastic spoon covered in a thin layer of gold, IT IS NOT SOLID GOLD. Gold is trading at over $1800 an ounce so if the spoon were solid gold it would cost near a thousand dollars! 🤑
