~~~Bonus Included!My Supplemental Color CommentaryCopyright My Two Threads 2024~~~One of Singer's Many Vintage Fashion Aid Treasures!The Fagoter Loom, Stripper, special slotted Fagoter Foot, a color replica of the original Instructions and Singer cardboard box.~The Singer Fagoter Foot and Stripper are in very good vintage condition.
The Fagoter Loom prongs (slanted metal teeth) are even and show no sign of damage, corrosion or breaks.
The back of the loom tongue (notched middle rail which moves the loom during machine stitching) is also in very good vintage condition and without signs of damage, corrosion or breaks.The side arms, middle tongue and end latch clasp are straight and without sign of damageor bends.The end latch clasps correctly without effort.
The spring holders at the other end of the Fagoter Loom are tight and in very good vintage condition.
No sign of corrosion in the essential grooves of the Fagoter Foot.
The instruction manual is a quality color replica of the original.The original box shows age, wear and stains on both sides. The end flaps are missing at each pictures are used to illustrate and demonstrate the features of this type of Singer Singercraft Fagoter Set using my Singer Featherweight 221.I can't wait to show the features of the delightful Singercraft Fagoter off to you!But, let's get some important informationout there before we PLAY!~That Fagoter FOOT!(often missing)Here is why it is so important.If this foot is missing, no other Singer foot is designed to replace it.~~~Your Special Singer Fagoter Foot has two slots on either side to accommodate the raised metal prongs (teeth) on the Fagoter Loom.Under your Fagoter Foot is a groove (red arrow below) which guides the stay line as you stitch it down to secure your fagoting weave (which I will talk about further on). If the stay line is not fed to the needle, your weave will not stay in place.See the two mounting screw slots (red arrow below)?The top slot is for your Singer Sewing Machine model 101. The lower slot is for use on all other vintage Singer side attaching low shank machines including the Featherweight.Let's look at your metal Singer Fagoter Loom closely from underneath.The tongue (central rail) is evenly notched like a long flat gear.In fact, that is exactly what it is.A flat gear!The notches mesh with the feed dog teeth and the loom issystematicallypulled beneath the needle (like a tractor belt) as you stitch.If the notches are corroded or worn down with rust, the loom will not move.~~~~~~~~The StripperSmoothly lifts your beautiful fagoting from the teeth of the loom.If you have your eye on a Singercraft Fagoter and the Stripper is missing, you can lift the weave from the teeth with a crochet hook.Your Stripper is not missing.~~~OkTime to PLAY!
The Singercraft Fagoter Instruction Manualis very easy to read and follow.The instructions will show you how to secureyour cord and weave an attractive design such as a figure 8on your Singer Fagoter Loom.Now, apply the "stay lines"(I've used stand out pink cord to illustrate).These Stay Lines are what secures your weave.This is where the special Singer Fagoting Foot becomes important!The Stay Lines must be guided to exactly below the needle to be stitched to the fagoting weave.
~~~I used a stretch/ball point needle to pierce the synthetic cord.The spring cord holders need to be tight.Want fagoting weave longer than the loom? Here's howYou can make continuousfagoting easily.The example below uses no. 3 pearled crochet cotton is applied in aparallelweave.Once you have applied the cord in the pattern/weave of your choice, lock the end of the cord by sliding it under the tension spring. Do not cut the cord.Knot and lock the start of the first stay line (yellow cord in example) at the top of the loomin the notch, bring it down the inside of the loom.
Slide the cord used for a stay line under the tension plate at the bottom of the loom.Stitch the stay line in place.When you stitch to the end of the loom, back stitch to lock the sewing machine threads in place (red arrow).In the same manner as described above, apply the 2nd stay line (blue cord in the example below).When you come to the end of the loom (red arrow below), back stitch the sewing machine thread to lock the 2nd stay line.Remove the weave from the loom. Do not cut any of the cords.Slip the bottom 3-4 loops at the end of the weave over the top 3-4 teeth of the fagoting loom. The first 4 loom teeth (red arrow below) are shaped to accept the loops more easily than the rest of the loom teeth.Again, apply the cord in the weave pattern you selected and slide the end (pink cord in example) under the tension plate at the bottom of the fagoting loom.Stitch down the 1st stay line (yellow cord in example), apply the 2nd stay line (blue cord) and stitch it to the weavelocking the sewing machine stitch at the end with 2-3 backstitches.Have fun making your own designer fagoting inserts with your beautiful vintage Singercraft Fagoter.Like my comments?They are included!Copyright My Two Threads 2024There you have it!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Your vintage Singer Singercraft Fagoter Set is ready to use!
